Following highly acclaimed productions in Paris and Berlin, Wolf Trap Opera presents the American premiere of Gassmann’s 1769 comic sendup of traditional 18th-century opera. Go behind the scenes during an opera premiere. From the three star sopranos, whose translated names are Smirking, Out-of-Tune, and Purple-Face, to the insecure composer and stereotypical stage mothers, no one is spared. With daggers drawn and everyone looking for glory, success is by no means assured.
