Vienna Business Association Mixer and Empowering Women Panel

5:45 p.m.  at the Vienna Community Center

5:45-6:30 p.m. – Vienna Business Association Mixer- celebrate the remarkable women in the Vienna business community with food, drink, and conversation. Participate in our icebreaker activity for a chance to win prizes. Drawing will be held at the end of the event. 

6:30 p.m. – Empowering Women Panel Discussion featuring Rustic Love founder, Michelle Connors; author and director of ‘The Center for Peace and Global Governance’ Sovaida Ma’ani Ewing, international attorney from the ‘Tahirih Justice Center’ Anusce Sanai, and Fairfax County Supervisor Dalia Palchik. Each speaker will reflect on how their work impacts and empowers women. The discussion will close with a question-and-answer session.

This event is part of the 2023 Liberty Amendments Month and celebrates the 19th Amendment; 
Granting Women the Right to Vote.
This amendment declares that the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.  2020 marked the 100th Anniversary of this amendment.

Panelists

Michelle Connors, Founder and Executive Director of Rustic Love   
Michelle founded Rustic Love with her family in the spring of 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stemming from their wish to help area restaurants stay in business and help feed local food-insecure families in the process, Rustic Love grew into a non-profit garnering more than four hundred thousand dollars in its first three years. For her work with Rustic Love, Michelle was awarded the Vienna Mayor's Award in 2021. Michelle is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been in travel and media marketing for 27 years, and has been a Northern Virginia resident for more than 20 years.

 

Dalia A. Palchik

Supervisor Dalia A. Palchik was born in Argentina and moved to Fairfax County, Virginia with her family when she was six years old. She is a proud graduate of Fairfax County Public Schools and graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and French and earned her post-Baccalaureate pre-medical certificate from Johns Hopkins University.

Dalia currently represents the Providence District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and currently serves as the Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, the Chair of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, and on the State Executive Council for Children’s Services. Anusce Sanai joined the Tahirih Justice Center in 2012. Anusce is a dedicated and experienced attorney with 10 years of direct legal services and management work in the immigration nonprofit field. She continues to strive for the advancement of equal rights, social justice and race unity while working with survivors of gender-based violence.
Anusce’s journey at Tahirih began as a family law attorney, expanding into immigration law while ascending to the role of supervisor to the current position of Senior Managing Attorney. She represented clients in matters related to immigration remedies under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), U-Visa, Battered Spouse Waiver, T-Visas and Asylum claims. In addition, Anusce serves as a co-chair on Tahirih’s Gender, Race, Anti-Racism, Cultural humility, and Equity Task Force (GRACE).  https://www.tahirih.org/


Sovaida Ma’ani Ewing
Sovaida Ma’ani Ewing is a prolific author, speaker, life mastery coach, and international lawyer with 20 years of experience in public and private legal practice. She is the founding director of The Center for Peace and Global Governance (cpgg.org), a virtual think tank and online forum that pools and proposes principled solutions to pressing global challenges.  She has published five books in the area of peace and global governance including “Building a World Federation: The Key to Resolving our Global Crises.”  Her latest book, available on Amazon, is “The Alchemy of Peace: 6 Essential Shifts in Mindsets and Habits to Achieve World Peace.” She also hosts a video podcast "Re-Imagining Our World” on the CPGG YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/c/centerforpeaceandglobalgovernancecpgg -- that is dedicated to creating a vision of the world we want and infusing hope that we can make the choices necessary to attain it.
