Historic Vienna's Spring Meeting - History of the W&OD Railroad

The History of the W&OD Railroad
The Trains May Be Gone, But the Trail Remains

Join us as we trace the journey from railroad tracks to community trails of "the skinniest park in Virginia" and discover how abandoned rail lines found new life, running through the Town of Vienna.

Once the rails carried trains—now they carry hikers, cyclists, runners, skaters, strollers and history.

Come hear Paul McCray, NOVA Parks Historian, present the fascinating history of this treasured trail.

Today all ages enjoy the 45-mile route along the former roadbed of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, through the urban heartland and Vienna, into the Virginia countryside.

No ticket required, just curiosity.   The HVI meeting is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

There will be a brief business meeting before the program, and this year’s Heritage Preservation Award will be announced.
