He is a friend of your son's. He is the captain of the basketball team. He is also very likely homeless. There are over 3\,000 students in Fairfax County Schools who have no home\, who bounce from couch to couch\, whose families have been evicted and are living in county shelters or have split up to live with relatives until they get back on their feet. \n\n\n\nThe facts of homelessness are these: \n\n \n\n The majority of homeless have jobs\n\n The majority of homeless are in families\n\n The majority of homeless are children\n\n Homelessness went down in DC and Maryland in 2019 \n\n Homelessness went up in Fairfax County\n\n There are over 20\,000 households in Fairfax County at high risk of losing their homes\n\n \n\nFamily PASS\, founded here in Vienna in 2006\, works with these families\, intervening to prevent homelessness when possible or find housing for families in shelters. Since 2006\, Family PASS has helped hundreds of families get back on their feet. Pat Kearns\, Family PASS executive director\, will talk about how Family PASS works to help families earn a living wage. \n\n \n\nTo hear some of Family PASS clients' success stories\, click here.\n\n \n\nFamily PASS\, which helped over 70 families in 2018 avoid homelessness\, has been able to continue to help families thanks to tremendous support from the local community.
