\nComposting Now Available at the Vienna Farmers Market \;
Here'\;s a great way to turn table scraps into an earth-friendly additive ? composting at the Vienna Farmers Market! \; The Town?s Conservation and Sustainability Commission (CSC) has arranged for Veteran Compost to provide a bin at the Vienna Farmers Market every \;Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.through Aug. 17. \; All you have to do is bring your food waste in a certified-compostable bag or your own container to the farmers market\, and the company will take it from there.
\n\nComposting is a natural process that converts organic materials into a nutrient-rich\, biologically-stable soil additive through natural decomposition. \; In short\, it?s nature?s way of repurposing waste.
\n\n\;?Composting is one of the most important things we can do to cut waste\, reduce trash\, address climate change and build healthy soil\,? said CSC member Mala Persaud. \; ?By composting food scraps\, we can reduce the volume of materials that would otherwise take up landfill space and prevent greenhouse gases from being emitted into the atmosphere.?
\n\n\;Many people do their own composting at home\, but some people may not have the time nor the space for home composting. \; The composting bin at the farmers market gives everyone the opportunity to turn table waste into nutrient-rich compost. \; The CSC is using its budget to pilot the program for 14 weeks this year\, and it will extend the program through the end of the farmers market season in October if an alternate funding source becomes available. \; If the concept catches on with the community\, the CSC expects to make composting at the farmers market a permanent fixture in future years.
